50 Walkers Participate in First Brickell Walk-About

Mar 18, 2009

Your neighborhood chamber of commerce, the Brickell Area Association, is pleased to have successfully conducted its inaugural “Brickell Walk About” on Tuesday, March 17th with 50 participants comprised of BAA members and directors, public officials and interested parties of the Brickell community. Led by BAA President Randy Olen and Commissioner and DDA Chairman Joe Sanchez, the walk-about was intended to put “eyes on the street” and garner greater focus on critical infrastructure needs in the Brickell corridor.

BAA has become increasingly concerned with the deteriorated condition of the public domain in Brickell and absence of corrective action with regard to persistent flooding, street cleaning, traffic signalization issues and broken sidewalks and street lighting. The organization hopes that walking the Brickell corridor with interested officials of the City of Miami, FDOT, MDTA and Miami DDA will trigger real improvements and serious reinvestment in Brickell which the Brickell Area Association believes should be viewed as a financial engine for Miami and an internationally recognized brand.

After nearly two hours of walking and documenting areas of neglect, disrepair and needed improvement in the public domain, participants in the first Brickell Walkabout repaired to one of Brickell’s finest restaurants, The Oceanaire Seafood Room in Mary Brickell Village, which kindly sponsored a closing reception. BAA salutes Oceanaire, Brickell Key Master Association and CBRE for making the inaugural Brickell Walkabout a success and sincerely thanks our members and public officials who gave so generously of their time.
